book's review... Gading-gading ganesha

It's been months since i've never read a book again..

But,Somehow my friend introduced me a new-published book which captured the ITB students struggling in enduring their daily activities, not only as a students but also as a part of the social community and their devotion to their beloved country.

this book entitled Gading-Gading Ganesha.




The book told us bout 6 young men,high school graduated,originated from different places through Indonesia,who proudly enrolled ITB as a freshmen there. Although those guys are vary in social-economical and culture backgroud but their promote the same meaning of idealism and had the massive proudness as a part of ITB.

The friendship began when they first were met in university registration. The story develop into their study phase with all their indivudual activities i.e becoming activist,bookworm,or concentrating in earning money for funding his study.
It offered us comedy among them,old joke though such as:
A high GPA is fated to be a lecturer or professor perhaps
A medium one became a professional engineer
The last one,An under achiever were destined to be a entrepreneur,perhaps the most succesfull one than the others...

The other parts of the book narrate the "dark age" of each character. Any kind of tragedy,educational problems,temptation or even loosing the people thier love enriched the plot from each character. Background setting of this story is well described in the history of ITB 70-80's situation when several events happened due this phase.

Finally,this fellowship reunite while they're met again as an alumnus of the institute and initiate the reunion in celebrating The 50th Anniversary of ITB.

Firstly i have a good desire for this book. It took me back to the time while i was still a student there and providing me with old time situation there. Beside that i was so touched saw the effort of each character in rebuilding their spirit and motivation in order to accomplish what they wishing for.

Hmmmmm sorry, honestly the plot is quite cliche,the story of fellowship consisted of ordinary boys and a popular girl in campus along with the romantic story among them. The too-light story confusing me are there any climax or the anti-climax in the story. So it left me with no special impression for the whole story.
Then the author is quite excessive in describing the students proudness of ITB, in my opinion some of the jokes he made symbolize the ITB arrogance. Somehow that jokes are not funny and tend to be a "garing" one.

And then the good news are....
this book are powerfull enough to ignite everyone who are ITB to be more resposibilities with their vow which has been declared since their were born in ITB,
"bakti kami untukmu Tuhan Bangsa dan Almamater,MERDEKA..".

somehow those sporits shows us that our generation,young ones, is the agent of change for a better Indonesia in the future.
Our real contribution were waited by millions of Indonesian.
